Name: Motoko (MO-to-ko), after Major Motoko Kusanagi, the main character in the Ghost in the Shell manga and anime series; because she just appears silently, like a ghost. She was just upstairs, and then, she’s right next to you!
Breed: Dilute Tortie, 10 yo
Likes: Looking out the window, hunting Insects, “helping” her humans. White fish wet food, very picky; shrimp and crab. Addicted to Shrimp Treats. Kalamata olives (?!), occasionally plain yogurt and popcorn. And LAPS! (Including Claire from Sit-a-Pet, aka “The Food Lady”).
Dislikes: Wind, all other animals, human legs, loud voices (especially on the phone or Zoom calls). Anything that takes attention away from her or prevents her from sitting on a human.
About Motoko: Motoko has a full case of Tortitude! She was rescued at age 5 to NoVA from Puerto Rico ahead of Hurricane Maria (they emptied the shelters and sent animals to Rescues further afield to have space for animals displaced by the storm). November 2 is her Adoptaversary! We believe she was a bottle baby, as she is a serious bully when not getting her way and didn’t seem to know how to be a cat, never marking anything with her chin or other cat behaviors. Motoko can get overstimulated by things like dogs barking or human legs, and bites when she is afraid (If her eyes get very big and she meows loudly, it’s best to walk away…). But she is at heart a sweet kitty who just wants to be with her humans. With medication and patience, she has learned how to Cat, and we hope she tolerates us as much as we love having her in our lives.
