Name: Kali

Breed: American shorthair

Likes: Eating cobwebs; sniffing the outside air that comes through by the door hinges when a door is open; riding on her human’s shoulders; getting attention while pacing up and down the stairs; kneading on her human’s stomach; watching the automatic blinds go down

“Where’s my treat?” (right after receiving one)

Dislikes: Folds in blankets on the bed; if her sleeping towel is not arranged “just right” on the back of the couch; going to the vet; her two brothers (when they were alive)

About Kali: We adopted Kali and her two brothers from the same litter in early 2008 through the Homeward Trails rescue organization (http://www.homewardtrails.org/). Since she was the smallest, Kali learned to be vigilant and fend off her overly-playful brothers while still getting her share of playtime and treats. Eventually they passed from age-related health issues and at 17 years of age, she is queen of the household! She enjoys having her choice of the best boxes and sleeping places and getting exclusive attention from her humans. She’s now in the middle stages of kidney failure and receives subcutaneous fluids three times a week, which she tolerates and fortunately quickly forgives. She enjoys the new “treats” she’s been getting, which are Churu-coated pill pockets to hide her Pepcid to help keep her stomach settled. At her age, her whiskers are no longer mostly black and come in white, and her silky black fur has a smattering of gray hairs here and there. Her purr is the biggest part of her – despite weighing only a bit over 6 pounds, she purrs like she might just explode! Her days are now spent with a lot of naps in her favorite spots, with occasional breaks for attention from her humans. For her entire life, during any vacations her humans had, someone from Sit-A-Pet took care of her (and her brothers) – in recent years, her favorite sitter, Lindsay!
